Trusting During the Storm - Part 1

THE ABSENCE OF TRUST            Page 6

** The disciples have been through a terrifying storm that threatened their very life. We too are open to the terrorism of our circumstances, unless we form the practice of trusting the Lord during the storm.

What does Scripture have to say about the practice of trusting the Lord? Lots!!! In the Psalms alone, this theme is repeated over and over.

Psalm 9:10 ...will put their trust in Thee
Psalm 25:1-2 ...in Thee I trust
Psalm 31:6 ...but I trust in the Lord
Psalm 31:14 ...as for me, I trust in Thee, O Lord
Psalm 37:3-5 Trust in the Lord...Trust also in Him
Psalm 40:4 ...man who has made the Lord his trust
Psalm 56:11 In God I have put my trust
Psalm 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people
Psalm 91:2 ...my God in whom I trust!

Alright then, let's go back to our passage in Matthew and bring our study to a close.

** What was the one thing that the disciples had going for them? The one thing that proves to be the most notable characteristic of a true believer?

They "followed Him". And we would do well to do the same no matter what our circumstances, we should always follow the lifestyle and instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ.

** What were some of the characteristics of the storm that the disciples had to endure?

It was very real!
It came out of nowhere and very suddenly.
It covered their boats or seemed overwhelming.
It seemed to be life threatening.
It caused them to mis-trust the Lord.

** How are the storms in your life different or maybe how are they the same?

** What are you going to do the next time that a storm catches you by surprise? When you are blindsided by some terrorizing circumstance that you do not understand, what will you do? Read Proverbs 3:5-6
