Chapter One, Lesson One
THE AUTHORITY OF GOD Page
V. 3 (Cont'd.)
** As the apostle sends these blessings to the redeemed who were living in the region of Galatia, what does it say about how he felt about them?
He loves them and has a deep, abiding concern for them. cf. Chapter
V. 4** What did Jesus Christ have to do to facilitate our receiving
the Grace and Peace of God?
He had to give "...Himself for our sins..."
** In the light of Jesus giving Himself for our sins, what impact would
that have on the "gospel of legalism" which was being proclaimed
by the Judaizers?
Since Christ died for our sins, total payment has been made, there
remains no need for legalism! cf. Romans 5:8, 6:23
** Did the men of Jesus' day take His life from Him?
Absolutely not! He freely gave it! cf.John 10:17-18
** Why would He do that? What was the goal of His self-sacrifice?
"...that He might deliver us out of this present evil age..."
The word used by Paul for "deliver"
is "exaireo" and means literally "to take out".
The term speaks of rescuing or setting free that which is in great danger
and has no ability to free itself. Jesus not only delivers us out of
this present evil age, but also into God's heavenly kingdom. cf. 2Timothy
