Ephesians, Chapter Six, Lesson Two

THE SPIRIT FILLED LIFE - Part 7            Page 5

V. 8 ** Do we always get the raise we deserve? Do we always hear a "job well done" for our extra efforts?

No - most often our employers will exploit our high work ethic for their financial gain.

** According to verse eight, what do we know about how the Lord feels regarding the good things done by us in His name?

We will receive a reward! We cannot out do our Savior. Whatever good we do, will be revisited back to us in His time. cf. Psalm 84:11, 1Corinthians 3:14 and 2Corinthians 5:9-10

** If they are bad enough, do our circumstances excuse us from obeying this command?

No - whether slave or free, we are to obey!

V. 9 ** Since all Christian employees are now going to be excellent to the glory of God, does this let the Christian employer off the hook?

No - he too is to obey God's Word.

** How different is the command which is given to employers?

It is identical! "...do the same things to them..."

** What are some of the "same things"

Maintain the proper attitude (V.5), doing the will of God from the heart (V.6), render service as unto the Lord (V.7).

** What is the one motivational tool that Christian employers are not to use?

"...and give up threatening..." do not be abusive or inconsiderate.

** For the Christian employee and employer, Who is really in charge?

Their one in the same Master, Who is in heaven!

** What does Paul now say that would prevent a prideful Christian employer from getting carried away in self praise when comparing themselves to their employees?

"there is no partiality with [God]!"
