Ephesians, Chapter One, Lesson Six

STRENGTH IN CHRIST            Page 5

V.20 ** What two examples of this power does Paul now give?

God "raised [Christ] from the dead"
God "seated Him at His right hand"

** Why should we care that God could raise Christ from the dead?

God promised it through the words of Jesus!
cf. Matthew 16:21 and 17:22-23

It proved our salvation was in to be in Christ!
cf. Acts 5:30-31

He is going to raise us up as well! cf. Ephesians 2:4-6, Romans 6:5 and John 5:28-29

** What does it mean that God "seated Him at His right hand"?

This was the one and only position of honor and authority. cf. Philippians 2:8-11
God alone has the power to do that!

V.21 ** According to this verse, is there anyone or anything that comes even close to Christ's resurrection glory, honor and authority?

No - He is far above all, even angelic or demonic hosts! "All rule and authority and power and dominion" were traditional Jewish terms to designate angelic beings of great rank and might. The point is, simply, that the power of Christ applied in the Believer's life cannot be overthrown or negated or defeated, because it far surpasses that of the hosts of Satan who's design is to defeat it. cf. Colossians 1:15-16, Matthew 28:18, 1John 4:4

** Is there any limit to the duration of the supremacy of Jesus Christ?

No, "not only in this age, but also in the one to come."

V.22 and 23

** As we draw our study of this marvelous first chapter of Ephesians to a close, how is Jesus Christ's authority described in these last two verses?

1. All things are under His feet - Psalm 110:1
2. He is Head over the church - Colossians 1:18
3. The church is His body - 1Corinthians 12:12
4. Christ fills all things in us - Colossians 3:11
