Chapter Four, Lesson One
REMEMBERING OUR MASTER Page
V. 5 (cont'd.)
** With what are we to conduct ourselves?
God's wisdom! This is calling for a carefully planned, consistent,
righteous lifestyle. This is knowing God's word and then applying God's
word. cf. Colossians 1:9-10, James 3:17
** Toward whom is this wisdom to be employed?
The unsaved - "outsiders". They do not understand our lives,
but are willing to denigrate the name of Christ if they think we are
** Even though the unsaved would want to deny the truth and berate our
Lord, what are we to do with every opportunity the Christ gives us?
We are to make "...the most of the opportunity."
There are just so many days, and so many chances to share God's saving
truth. We are to be around the unsaved world, sharing the truth, but
not joining in their lifestyle.
cf. Psalm 90:12, Psalm 1:1-2
V. 6 ** Finally, here in verse six Paul gives us the fourth area
in the life of a Christian, which can be impacted for the glory of God
by "Remembering Our Master". What is it?
How we speak! Earlier we saw that we are compelled to share the mystery
of Christ with the lost world around us. Here Paul is referring to our
everyday speech pattern.
** What two things should characterize the speech of a God honoring Christian?
1) grace - We speak that which is spiritual, wholesome, fitting, kind,
sensitive, purposeful, gentle, truthful and loving. cf. Luke 4:22, Ephesians
2) salt - We use our speech as a flavoring of Christ to the unsaved
world. We are to be the preserving influence on decaying society. cf.
2Corinthians 2:14, 1Peter 3:15, Psalm 141:3
** If we are always gracious and preserving with our speech pattern,
what are we going to know how to do?
"...how [we] should respond to each person."
