Colossians, Chapter Four, Lesson One

V. 3 (cont'd.)

** For what is Paul asking?

"that God may open up to us a door for the word"
cf. 1Corinthians 16:8-9, 2Corinthians 2:12, Acts 14:27

** This introduces us to the second impact that "Remembering Our Master" will have on the daily life of a believer. What will we be faithful to do if our mind is fixed on the Lord Jesus Christ?

We will "...speak forth the mystery of Christ..."
Remembering just Who it is that is our Master, is the very thing which drives us to share His gospel. cf. Colossians 1:26-27,

** When we remember Him who died for us, we are compelled to speak forth His gospel. But it can become very expensive. What had happen to Paul because he had shared God's saving truth in Jesus Christ?

He had "been imprisoned".

** This brings up an important point, when should we be sure to remember our master?

When we are being persecuted for His name sake!

Psalm 3:7 - "Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God"
Psalm 18:3 - "I call upon the Lord..."
Psalm 143:9 - "...I take refuge in Thee."

V. 4 ** In verse four, Paul continues to describe his prayer request on his own behalf. He wants to "speak forth the mystery of Christ" (V.3), but what does he add regarding that speech?

He wants to be clear! He wants to speak "in the way [he] ought to speak..." Paul always wanted to remember his Master by accurately and clearly telling forth the gospel.
cf. Acts 20:17-21, Romans 10:9-10 and 1Corinthians 15:1-4

V. 5 ** Doing all of this praying is a wonderful thing, but Paul now shows us the third area of a Christian's life which is impacted by "Remembering Our Master". Do you see it?

Our conduct!
