2Thessalonians, Chapter Three, Lesson Three

V.16 (Cont’d.)

** Is that a request for “part time” peace?

No, “...continually grant you peace...” cf.John 14:27

** Where could we expect to have this peace?

“...in every circumstance...”

** Why is that? Who is with us to ensure our peace?

“...the Lord be with you all”!

V.17 ** What three-fold statement does Paul make to verify the authenticity of this letter?

1) I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand
2) this is a distinguishing mark in every letter
3) this is the way I write

** Why is he being so careful? Why is this so important?

There were forgeries floating around and he wants these believers reading, believing and obeying the truth! cf. 2Thessalonians 2:2 “a letter as if from us”

V.18 ** What does the apostle add as a capstone to this masterpiece of encouragement and instruction?

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

** Why is that important?

Jesus said, “...apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5)
All of our hope, all of our obedience and all of our lives are completely dependent upon
the grace of God!

** What is possibly the most challenging and purist form of love for the brethren within the body of Christ?

Christ Honoring Admonition” - a willingness to faithfully pursue a brother or sister who has become entangled in a sinful lifestyle and to draw them back to obedience to the Word of God.
