1Timothy, Chapter One, Lesson Two

CORRUPT ENVIRONMENT            Page 5
V.11 (cont’d.)

** So as we move into verse eleven, let’s re-read the beginning of verse nine for context to answer this question. By whose authority and loving grace was the Law given to mankind?

“realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless...
according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God

Our “blessed God” has given us His standard through the Law and His deliverance through the gospel! cf. John 1:17

** How do you feel about guarding or caring for something of value which belongs to someone else?

It is always a nervous thing to do, one that carries the utmost of responsibility on our parts.

** Into who’s hands did God entrust His glorious gospel?

Into the hands of the apostle Paul. cf. Galatians 2:7, 1Corinthians 9:16, 2Corinthians 4:7, 1Thessalonians 2:4

** Has God entrusted anyone else with spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world?

Of course! All of his children share the same calling and awesome responsibility.
cf. Matthew 5:16, Colossians 4:5-6, 1Peter 3:15

** If we have been called by God out of the “Corrupt Environment” of the world, saved by His grace and entrusted with the gospel; how can we know what to watch for as we remain alert against false teachers?

Paul gives us three distinct signs:

1) Examine their motives
V.7 - “wanting to be teachers of the Law”

2) Look at their understanding of Scripture
V.7 - “they do not understand” cf. 2Peter 3:16

3) Examine the effect of their teaching
V.8-10 - “if one uses it lawfully” They leave lost sinners in the grasp of the “Corrupt Environment” by failing to share God’s truth accurately.
cf. 2Timothy 2:15, Matthew 23:15
